Jackson Avery Arrives
Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) returns to Seattle, quickly making it clear he is not there to help Meredith deal with the fallout from her research. He insists they need to resolve the conflict surrounding the research as soon as possible. Jackson emphasizes the need for funds to advance medical research, causing Meredith to reconsider her move. Meanwhile, Catherine faints just when Meredith is about to confront her. She never revealed this information to her family; however, she has a tumor in the spinal part of her body.
She wishes to be applauded for the triumphs she scored in surgery not in medicine, and she defiantly rejects invasive procedures. While Meredith cannot bring herself to believe even the words that come out of Catherine’s mouth now, this is yet another layer of complication that she needs to work through in her interpersonal dynamic with Catherine….
Fallout and New Beginnings
The consequences of the firing start to show as the episode goes on. It is clear that the other doctors who were fired have been reinstated, although the details of the agreement between Meredith and Catherine are unknown. Meredith fears that his pioneering studies on Alzheimer’s disease will now take a different turn..
Bailey’s Decision
While her husband Ben (Jason George) intends to finish his surgical residency at Seattle Press, Bailey is seen working at a clinic. However, the pressure to return to Grey Sloan mounts when Bailey’s replacement, Sydney Herron (new cast member), begins clashing with the interns, who miss Bailey’s tough love. By the end of the episode, Bailey resolves to get her job back, and confidently tells Ben, “I’m getting my job back.” – This hinted a strong return for Bailey in the episodes to come.
Jo’s Big News
Meanwhile, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) grapples with personal news. Throughout the episode, several interruptions prevent her from telling Link (Chris Carmack) that they are expecting a baby. Eventually, during an informal moment at Jo’s house, Link puts the pieces together when he notices Jo turning down fries and wine. Overjoyed by the news, he embraces the idea of Jo and them expanding their family .
Richard’s Growth
James Pickens Jr.‘s character Richard Webber deals with personal struggles while helping Anthony Hill’s character Winston during surgery. Following his care of a patient hurt at a rally against climate change, Winston helps Richard overcome his dread of surgery. Richard’s experience provides a new perspective on mentoring and teaching, which is able to transform his situation at the hospital despite the challenges..
New relationships develop
Jules (Adelaide Kane) and Mika (Midori Francis) express their feelings after a romantic encounter. After an awkward day, Jules surprises Mika with a passionate kiss, signaling the start of a new relationship amid the chaos at Grey Sloan.
Blue’s fiancée returns
Towards the episode’s conclusion, Blue (new cast member) tells Lucas (Niko Terho) that her fiancée, Molly, played a key role in her life during a difficult time. The narrative hints at a complicated backstory involving a car accident that caused Molly to lose her memory.
