Tracker Season 2 Episode 6 is called “Trust Fall” and it’s about a scary fight for survival on a camping trip with old friends that turns into a mystery that keeps you guessing. In Washington’s Snoqualmie National Forest—a peaceful forest getaway turns into the setting for a shocking showdown, betrayal, and secrets.
Monica, Jason, Cooper and Sam are laughing and talking about old times around a campfire at the start of the episode. By morning, though, they were nowhere to be found, leaving behind bloody tents and unanswered questions. Lauren, a close friend who missed the first night of camping, shows up to find a mess at the site. She hires Colter (Justin Hartley) to find out what happened to her friends because she is afraid the worst.
Tracking the Missing Campers
Colter jumps right into the case and finds troubling clues right away. Her friends had planned to go to a nearby waterfall that night, but terrible things happened. He finds Sam hurt and confused, saying that he was drugged and got lost from the group. Sam also thinks he heard gunshots, which points to wrongdoing.
While Lauren and Sam are taken to the hospital, Colter goes deeper into the woods and meets Keaton, a retired Tacoma police officer (Brent Sexton) . Keaton says he has been looking into a string of murders that have something to do with the forest. He thinks the killings happen at the same time as rare lunar events, like the recent Super Blue Moon. They work together, even though they don’t want to, to find the person who fired the guns.
A Deadly Game in the Woods
Colter and Keaton follow a tense trail of clues until they reach Marcus Wilson, a mentally unstable recluse who lives alone and away from everyone else. Marcus is a threat at first because he is armed and dangerous, but Colter and Keaton take his weapons away and get information from him. Marcus says he fired his gun, but he doesn’t say he killed anyone. He says in a vague way that the campers were already “attempting to kill each other.”
This new information changes the investigation. Colter finds out that Cooper was being held hostage by Monica and Jason, who are married. Three people have a dark secret from eight years ago: they were involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed Natalie Perry’s husband. Cooper demanded that they admit to what they did out of guilt, but Monica and Jason planned to shut him up for good.
A confession ends in death
Monica and Jason force Cooper to go to his apartment to find out about the “insurance plan” he hinted at. They find a written confession along with the name of the lake where the body was hidden. As a heated argument gets worse, violence breaks out, and Cooper accidentally kills Jason. Monica is so scared and desperate that she knocks Cooper out and runs away with him to the lake, where she plans to kill him and destroy the evidence.
Colter to the Rescue
With Keaton’s help, Colter follows Monica to the lake now that he knows the truth. During a tense argument, he calms Monica down and gets her to give up before she does more damage. Monica is guilty of many crimes, but she doesn’t push the limits and kill anyone.
Cooper is still dealing with the tragedy of Jason’s death, even though he is trying to make up for past mistakes. Lauren and Sam show up to help their friends, which brings some comfort to the broken group. Lauren keeps her promise to Colter and gives him the $25,000 reward for finding the killer.
A New Ally and an Unfinished Mystery
Colter’s skills and determination impress Keaton, so he offers to help Colter continue his search for Gina Pickett, a missing girl whose case is very important to him. As the show goes deeper into Colter’s personal quest, this new alliance gives us a taste of more mysteries to come.
Tracker gives us another exciting episode with action, emotional stakes, and characters who are morally complicated. Now that the mystery in the forest is solved, Colter’s unsolved past secrets promise even more mystery in the future.
