THE LAST OF US Episode 9

A conclusion to the first season of The Last of Us has been released, bringing the happenings of the game to a close. In season one, episode nine of the HBO series, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) go to the Firefly hospital expecting the physicians to use Ellie’s immunity as a treatment. But soon Joel learns that Ellie must be sacrificed in order to synthesize a cure. Because of this, Joel goes on a killing spree, killing almost everyone in the hospital and rescuing Ellie just in time. Ellie is under anesthesia and unaware of what’s going on, so Joel tells her a story about how the physicians are unable to treat her because of her immunity. As Joel eliminates the surgeons before they’re able to try to create a cure from Ellie’s blood, the audience is left wondering if a cure was really conceivable on the HBO show.

Season 1 of The Last of Us has concluded, and Ellie’s immunity has not been used to create a cure. A solution could be found in the games, though.

Several fans of The Last of Us have wondered if Ellie’s blood is used to create a cure for the Cordyceps brain infection in the first season of the game. Despite the fact that the physicians in the world of The Last of Us at first appear to think that Ellie can be utilized to produce a cure, this plot point is never solved. Ellie’s immunity may lead to a cure in The Last of Us Part II, but that’s because the sequel tells a very different plot than the HBO drama.

As Joel eliminates the surgeons before they’re able to try to create a cure from Ellie’s blood, the audience is left wondering if a cure was really conceivable on the HBO show. Ellie’s immunity to the Infection is explored, although this potential is never explored in any of The Last of Us games. Ellie’s decision to continue believing that Joel was truthful prevents her from investigating a cure in The Last of Us Season Two. Because Ellie’s immunity was not transformed into a cure, she does not go to the hospital also after Joel’s confession that he lied.

But unfortunately, Ellie’s immunity isn’t the only thing that isn’t a cure. There is no new hope for treatment of the Cordyceps brain illness in the sequel to The Last of Us, and the hopelessness persists throughout both the original novel and its sequel. It appears that there will be no end to the threat posed by the Infected zombies in The Last of Us, as the one and only physician who might have been able to find a cure has been eliminated by Joel. This is despite the fact that the humans who have survived have become more effective at combating the Infected.

The destruction Joel wreaked in The Last of Us season 1 finale all but guarantees there will never be a treatment for the Cordyceps brain illness. As time passes, fewer and fewer scientists and doctors who were still working when the pandemic broke out remain the sole true hope. A ray of hope for humanity was extinguished when Joel shot and killed the Firefly doctor in the season one conclusion of The Last of Us. The plot of the video game The Last of Us would be ruined if the cure for the disease was released, which is another reason why the cure for Cordyceps would never be made public. If the solution to the zombie apocalypse in The Last of Us on HBO was revealed, the story’s distinctiveness would be lost.
